Another Change of Colour
Every time you think, all's been said about it, and it's dead and burried, there is definitely someone digging it up again. Such as homophobia, you just can't kill it.
The other day I talked to a woman who I thought I liked, and I was just about to step from acquaintance to friendship, when she suddenly and unexpectedly made a remark that rocked me back on my heels.
"Those weirdos", she said. "As long as they live a quiet life and don't get in anybody's way, I don't mind. But they shouldn't ask for marriage, or adopting children, and such."
"Jesus", I said."You must be a Protestant."
"No", she replied, a little caught off guard. "I'm a Roman Catholic."
"Well", I said. "Then you Catholics must have adopted a few customs from your competitors."
"What?" she asked, now really taken aback.
"You live with the Protestant truth: Let shit happen to someone else!"
"What are you talking about!" she snapped angrily, and it wasn't a question.
"I'm talking about being gay. Since it's genetic, you can congratulate yourself. No one will tell you to stay in the closet and don't get married, nor have children."
She went from red to purple, which is quite clerical, but I'm sure she wasn't feeling remorse. I, however, was. About having spent time with such a person.
